小白狐 FAQs

xiao/bai/hu: a small white (arctic) fox.

1. Why “snowfox”?

You mean, besides the fact that they are pretty awesome? It comes from a delightful creature named Townsen, from Karl Kerschl’s fabulous webcomic, “The Abominable Charles Christopher.” The plucky, adorable, delightful little fox reminded several close friends of myself — not sure why, since I share none of those characteristics — and the nickname has stuck. I highly encourage all of you to check out the beautifully illustrated, lighthearted and deeply moving woodland tale at abominable.cc.

2. Why “bandit”?

It’s a great word, and it sort of brings to mind dashing scoundrels and adventure. In fact, I like it so much I happened to give the name to my tough little car. A 5-speed, 16-year-old Civic isn’t quite a Trans Am à la Burt Reynolds, but at least I’m a fox and not a frog. (No offense, Sally.)

3. Why “elusive”?

I’m busy, jeez.

4. Okay, snarkypants. But what’s the blog about?

I cover this a bit in the Queue and the “Verbose About” pages, but basically, I’m not ready to narrow down the blog and say, “I’m going to make this a Health and Fitness blog!” or “I’m only going to write about Skyrim!” or “I’m going to show the world how little I know about cars!” Being in my twenties, I’m still figuring it all out (does anyone ever stop?). So: the blog’s about me. I’m about health and fitness, and gaming, and cars, and loving ourselves, and being gentle, compassionate, empowered badasses, so my posts will probably be a lot about me figuring those things out. Sometimes I like to offer advice and encouragement; sometimes, I like to complain about my thesis; sometimes I feel wildly unqualified and inadequate to be blogging at all, and will just share a cute fox picture. You’re welcome.

Feel free to let me know which posts you enjoy reading the most (apparently, to get Freshly Pressed I just needed to complain about grocery shopping) and what you’d like to see more of. Feedback and conversation are always welcome!
